CHENANGO COUNTY – According to the Chenango County 911 dispatch records, several calls poured into the 911 call center last evening with reports of wind damage, downed trees and utility lines.
Starting at approximately 6:30 p.m., county dispatchers fielded nearly 30 calls in response to hazardous conditions attributed to the brief but strong weather pattern.
Emergency crews from Norwich, Preston, Plymouth, Oxford, South Otselic, South New Berlin, Smyrna and New Berlin were all active in clearing trees and branches.
NYSEG crews worked to repair damaged utility wires at a number of locations along State highway 23 east of the city and State highway 320 to the west.
According to NYSEG, approximately 3,100 customers were temporarily without service as a result of downed electrical lines and a transformer malfunction on McDonough Rd. in the Town of Preston – but as of press time the company’s real-time power outage monitor reports that all customers in Chenango County had power fully restored.
