Several Arraigned In County Court

NORWICH – Several appeared in Chenango County Court on Friday for their arraignments.

• Jose A. Ortiz-Perez, Puerto Rico, appeared in court for his arraignment, which was adjourned until an interpreter could be found. He is facing charges of two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, class B felonies; criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony; and criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, a class E felony. He was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility.

• Gary N. Hackett, Jr., 42, Guilford, appeared in court for his arraignment and pleaded not guilty to aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree, a class E felony; operating a motor vehicle with .08 percent or more weight of alcohol in his blood, a class A misdemeanor; and driving while intoxicated, a class A misdemeanor. Previously, he had been released on his own recognizance – a status that was continued. He was forbidden to consume or possess alcohol or drugs; is not to operate a motor vehicle; and is to submit to random urine analysis. Hackett will appear in court at a later date.

Assistant District Attorney Michael Ferrarese of the Chenango County District Attorney's Office explained that this is Hackett's third alcohol related offense in three years and requested a minimum that he enroll in an alternative to incarceration program.
