NORWICH – Members of The Norwich Theatre Company are busy setting the stage for another exciting and memorable performance to be held right here in the heart of Chenango.
For their fifth stage production, the ensemble of local performing arts enthusiasts has been busy for the past six weeks building sets and rehearsing their parts for their rendition of “Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat.”
“It's a fun, family-friendly and light hearted musical ... It's big and bright and extremely entertaining,” said Norwich Theatre Company President Marty Kuhn over the voices of female singers reciting warm-up scales in harmony Tuesday evening.
According to Kuhn, this production has a musical score that will keep watchers entertained by traveling a winding road through the genres of county, rock and roll, vaudeville and others.
“If you listen to some musicals, the majority of them tend to follow one musical genre throughout,” she explained. “For instance, ‘Oklahoma!’ is primarily country-western whereas ‘Joesph’ offers a variety. There's some kind of music for everybody.”
The storyline can be best summed up as a pop version of the story of Joseph and his coat of many colors taken directly from the book of Genesis.
