Sherburne-Earlville 4, Sauquoit Valley 3
SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville completed one of its best comeback victories in years rallying from a two-goal halftime deficit to defeat Sauquoit Valley Monday afternoon.
Emma Hodges scored 42 seconds into the second half to pull her club to within 3-2, and Hodges assisted Megan Rodman two minutes later for the tying goal.
The winning tally came with 11 1/2 minutes left when Alexa Bates scored after a crossing pass from Hodges.
"We just made great, composed plays in the circle," said S-E coach Sheila Cooman of the second-half goals. "It's hard to come back from that many down, but (the girls) really gutted it out."
Despite S-E's dominance in the second half, Sauquoit Valley made one final offensive push, and had a penalty corner with no time left on the clock. "Again, the defense was really composed (at the end), and played really, really well the entire second half," Cooman said.
S-E scored the game's initial goal two minutes in on Caitlin Lawrence's unassisted tally. SV countered with three straight goals, two from Alyssa Orsino, to take a 3-1 lead into halftime.
The Marauders (2-3) play at Morrisville-Eaton Wednesday.
