Oxford 20, Candor 12

CANDOR - Oxford turned up the intensity in the second half scoring two touchdowns to win its third road outing in four games this season.

The Blackhawks struggled in the first half failing to score on a first-and-goal, and trailing 12-7 after Candor's Josh Wilcox ran for a 70-yard touchdown.

Some simple input from the players at halftime allowed the Oxford coaching staff to make the proper adjustments.

"(The team) gave us some good feedback, and everything they were telling us really helped us out," said Oxford coach Jeff Newton. "It was a totally different (Oxford) team in the second half."

Oxford's defense allowed less than 60 total yards in the second half, and swept by the Indians with two scores in the third quarter.

Angelo Gonzalez, who stepped into the game late in the first half, threw an 8-yard TD pass to Trenton Lyons, then hooked up with sophomore Harry Oliver on a 16-yard TD strike.

Bryan Simpson led the Oxford offense with 152 yards rushing and a four-yard TD run in the opening half.

Oxford hosts defending Class D champion Tioga on Friday.
