NORWICH – The Norwich City School District is putting forward a $15 million building project to be divided among each of the district’s four schools, as well as the field house and bus garage. The proposal marks the first major building project for the district since 2005.

Using accumulated funds from three primary sources (state aid, existing debt payments, and reserves), school officials say the project has been narrowed so it will bear no impact on the local tax levy.

“Our goal, financially, is to make sure it has no tax impact on the community,” said District Superintendent Gerard O’Sullivan. “Each building will have several million dollars going into it, but when we combine the money from those three sources, we’re able to propose what we think is a good building project.”

The NCSD building subcommittee is currently working out final details of the project with Tetra Tech, the architecture and engineering firm selected for design of the project. Tetra Tech also designed the $38 million building expansion project for the high school and middle school in 2005.
