G-MU 2, Morris 1
COPES CORNERS – G-MU overcame a first-half mistake rallying past Morris Monday afternoon in its final game of the 2014 season.
The Raiders trailed by a goal in the first half when an attempted clear out of the defensive zone deflected off a G-MU defender and into the net with 19:55 remaining.
"We were kind of nervous (at halftime) and feeling like we were in a rut," said G-MU coach Meghan Benoit. "We were playing flat."
G-MU (5-10) surged in the final 15 minutes of the game. Senior Tayler Nichols scored the tying goal when a Morris pass deflected off G-MU's Elaina Palada back toward the Morris penalty area. Nichols split the defense running onto the ball and tucking away the goal with 12:12 remaining.
Nichols scored the winner with 1:54 left beating multiple Mustangs defenders to score on a breakaway.
"I think Tayler revived our team's spirit when she tied the game," Benoit said. "We stepped it up and started winning balls at midfield that we weren't winning, and we put more pressure on their defense. It was a great way to end the season."
