Greene 34, Whitney Point 0
WHITNEY POINT – The Trojans surely would like to have a couple of their early games back.
Greene won for the third time in four games routing Whitney Point on the road Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore running back Luke Erickson had over 300 all-purpose yards, and sophomore quarterback Zach Orzell ran for one touchdown and threw for another.
"The kids felt very comfortable knowing their assignments on offense and defense, and they executed them well," said Greene coach Dave Gorton. "We were physical as well, and that made the difference."
Greene (3-5) racked up 370 yards of total offense and held the Golden Eagles to just 97 total yards.
Orzell scored on an 11-yard early in the second quarter improvising after a blown assignment. That touchdown came after Greene had turned the ball over on its two drives in the first quarter.
"Once we scored that first touchdown, it took the pressure off," Gorton said. "We had great blocking up front all game, and our backs ran through some huge holes."
Orzell's score was the first of three touchdowns in the second quarter. Cole Nelson had an 11-yard TD jaunt, and Erickson returned a punt 57 yards to paydirt.
Erickson ran for 159 yards on 16 carries, caught three passes for 53 yards, and had 89 punt return yards. "Luke was outstanding today; he did it all," Gorton said.
