SAUQUOIT – The Cyclones “B” team lost in the Tri-Valley League Pop Warner championship game last weekend losing a hard-fought contest to the Utica Bulldogs, 19-12.

The Cyclones contained the swift Bulldogs most of the day with the exception of two long TD runs in the first half of 61 yards and 53 yards.

The Cyclones mounted a three-play passing drive in the second quarter – a 35-yard pass play from Carson Maynard to Ayden John-Lorimer, an Elijah Rodriguez pass to Lorimer, and a Maynard TD pass to Ben McGillicuddy, whose eight-yard TD reception made it a 13-6 Utica lead at halftime. There was no scoring in the third, and each team traded scores in the fourth.

The Cyclones mounted a furious drive in the fourth using the passing game with Rodriguez and Maynard completing passes. Rodriguez scored on a three-yard run cutting Utica’s lead to 19-12. The Cyclones were again moving the ball through the air into Bulldog territory as time expired.

The Cyclone “D” out hit the Bulldogs led by Rodriguez, Michael Squires, Cameron Byrne, Nick Glanville, Andrew Mullen, McGillicuddy, Tyler Rice, and Izaiah Caballero.

Rice recovered a fumbled Utica punt and Mullen had a big fumble recovery in the third.
