NORWICH – The Chenango County Historical Society in Norwich received a tout of support from U.S. Congressman Richard Hanna who visited the museum Wednesday to catch a glimpse of the ongoing Loomis Barn project.
“For a small community, there’s a lot of enthusiasm for this project,” Hanna said, citing continued efforts of volunteers and the more than $300,000 in contributions from individuals and other nonprofits throughout the area. “A lot of people don’t realize what a great museum they have here.”
The Historical Society’s Loomis Barn project officially got underway with a groundbreaking in May. Since then, the grounds of the museum on Rexford Street have become a bustling construction site that, when all is said and done, will be home to the county’s largest agriculture education center.
“We are excited to see this project coming together for the community,” said Joyce Zummo, CCHS Board President. “This is a huge project that’s gotten a lot of support from a lot of people.”
