NORWICH – A young man convicted of stealing off road motorcycles and a repeat drunk driver were sentenced on Dec. 15 in Chenango County Court.

• Rebel L. Whitman, 20, Norwich, was indicted for criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, a class E felony, on Sept. 17 of this year.

Whitman was arraigned for the charge on Sept. 29. He pleaded guilty to criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree on the same day.

Judge Frank B. Revoir, Jr. remanded Whitman back to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 cash or $10,000 property bond, which were the same amounts originally set by the local court.

Sentencing was adjourned for the purpose of investigating whether or not Whitman was eligible for the Shock Incarceration Program.

Whitman has three previous misdemeanor convictions related to theft. He has also previously received outpatient drug and alcohol treatment in Chenango County.

In the fall of 2013 Whitman was arrested for possessing stolen property. It was alleged he had stolen a sound mixing board from a residence in Greene.

Whitman appeared before Revoir to be sentenced for criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree on Dec. 15. He was still incarcerated in the county jail at the time of his sentencing.
