Teens Accused Of Stealing AK-47 And Ammunition From Residence

NORWICH – Two male teenagers were arraigned on Jan. 5 in Chenango County Court for allegedly stealing a gun and several other items from a City of Norwich residence.

• Shawn P. Burke, 18, Norwich, was indicted on Dec. 17, 2014 for burglary in the second degree, a class C felony and petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor.

Burke was 17 years old and still a minor at the time of his indictment. He had his 18th birthday last December.

It is alleged on a day in the month of Sept. of 2014 at a residence in the City of Norwich, Burke –while acting in concert with another– did knowingly and unlawfully enter and remain in a dwelling.

It is also alleged, at the same time and place, Burke did commit larceny by stealing a white medium-sized safe, a silver watch, an AK-47 rifle, two 20-round magazines 7.62 caliber, 500 rounds of 7.62 caliber ammunition, a pasta machine and different types of medications from within.

Burke was arraigned on Jan. 5 for the class C felony of burglary in the second degree and the class A misdemeanor of petit larceny.

He pleaded not guilty on both counts.

Burke's public defender, David Sonn said his client was interested in doing a pre-plea investigation.

According to First District Attorney Michael D. Ferrarese bail for Burke was set at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond by the local court.
