NORWICH — In the world of the arts and showbiz in general – ad lib changes that happen on the fly due to a miscue are often embraced, leaving an audience none the wiser.

As a twist in fate would have it, stemming from a corporate change in Sony pictures policies, organizers at the Chenango Film Society are rolling with the punches to adjust this Wednesday's screening of “It Happened One Night” to “Gone with the Wind” – which celebrated a 75th anniversary of its silver-screen premiere no more than a month ago.

As the first installment of the Chenango Film Society's “Hollywood though the Decades” series, “Gone with the Wind” has been revered as an iconic symbol dating back to the heyday of classic American film making and screen acting.

Dating back to December 15, 1939, the world premiere of the beloved tale took place at the Loews Grand Theatre in Atlanta, Ga. The legendary film classic that would captivate global audiences and create a devoted legion of fans can still be felt in 2015 Chenango County.

Easily sweeping the 1939 Academy Awards as Best Film, director Victor Fleming took one of Hollywood's best gambles by choosing Actress Vivien Leigh – who was virtually unheard of in Hollywood at the time – as his lead. The film is considered to be one of the most spectacular depictions of the American Civil War and included Hattie McDaniel as the first ever black screen actor to take home a Academy award for the role of Best Supporting actress.

The Colonia Theatre in conjunction with the Chenango Film Society is proud to host the tribute screening of this beloved cinematic landmark, and feedback from social media about the change-up has been nothing but two thumbs up.

“Hollywood though the Decades” is the second series from the newly conceived Chenango Film Society. The group got it's start late last year with it's initial offering “Cinema Memories” series that brought blockbuster favorites the likes of Dead Poets Society, Godzilla, Ghostbusters, Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Nightmare Before Christmas all to the Colonia Theatre big screen.

The screening of hollywood classics offers a younger generation of movie goers a once in a life time opportunity to take in the full cinematic experience of these masterpieces.

Likewise, the not-as-young crowd can get a taste of sentiment and enjoy movies “the way they used to be.”

The Chenango Film society is also soliciting membership, at an annual rate of $20 for individuals and $25 for Families. Membership allows entrance into all Hollywood Through the Decades series at a discounted rate of $4 per ticket per movie off the general public ticket price of $7 at the door.

Screenings begin at 6:30 p.m., children under 7 are free.
