Frankfort-Schuyler 60, Sherburne-Earlville 50

SHERBURNE – It was a “grand” night for Frankfort-Schuyler in Thursday’s victory over Sherburne-Earlville.

Danielle Migliore stopped a third-quarter S-E run hitting a three ball to raise her team’s lead back to eight, 39-31. With the shot, the Knights guard surpassed 1,000 career points on her way to a 28-point evening.

Migliore had six threes in the game, and many were converted several feet behind the three-point arc. “We tried box-and-one, getting out to her in man...it didn’t seem to matter much,” said S-E coach Karen Mulligan of Migliore.

Migliore and Danielle Caivana hit back-to-back threes in the second quarter lifting their club to a 32-17 lead. S-E climbed back to within 34-26 by halftime as Emily Stanton made 5 of 6 free throws in the final 2 1/2 minutes.

Two buckets from Sydney Palmer and a free throw by Stacia Beckwith closed the F-S lead to 36-31 early in the third. Migliore responded to a Palmer basket just nine seconds later with a dagger three.

In the defeat, S-E junior Lilly Berg became the school’s all-time leading scorer with 789 points. Berg finished with 23 points and 19 rebounds in the defeat. Savannah Irwin added 12 points.

“The shots weren’t falling tonight and it could have been easy for us to let the game get out of hand,” Mulligan said. “I was proud of the way we didn’t quit and kept battling.”

The Marauders (8-4) play Canastota next Thursday.
