NORWICH – A two vehicle MVA in the Town of Norwich resulted in a rollover shortly before 11 a.m. Friday morning.
The collision occurred at the intersection of county Road 33 “Polkville Hill” and county Road 34 “Springvale Rd.”
According to bystander Josh Sheldon who witnessed the incident, a gray Subaru Legacy made a right turn from county Road 34 onto county Road 33 into the path of a red westbound Ford pickup truck that was traveling through the intersection.
Sheldon said that the truck attempted to swerve around the car, making impact to the front of the smaller vehicle.
“The driver of the pickup attempted to miss the car and overcorrected and put it [the truck] into the ditch. Once the front tire hit the soft shoulder and the snow the driver lost control and it flipped,” said Sheldon.
Sheldon, who was working outside of his home with his father heard the collision and assisted the driver of the pickup exit the vehicle by breaking the passengers side window and carefully pulling him out of the wreckage.
“I couldn't just let the guy lay there – he was upside down tangled up in the steering wheel,” said Sheldon.
City of Norwich Fire Chief Tracy Chawgo pointed out that the force of impact was so great that one of the trucks rear tires sheared from the hub and rolled down the hill, eventually coming to rest some 200 yards from the truck.
According to County dispatch, LifeNet was put on standby for the incident and shortly called off. The extent of injuries are still unknown at this time.
Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.
