Unadilla Valley 72, Bainbridge-Guilford 60
NEW BERLIN – A furious fourth quarter allowed Unadilla Valley to avert an upset bid from Bainbridge-Guilford in Wednesday night’s home contest.
UV’s Ethan Grey and Ryan Postma each scored eight points in the fourth quarter, and the duo also hit four free throws apiece down the stretch to cinch up the game.
B-G led after each of the first three quarters, and took a six-point lead into the last eight minutes. Senior Zach Smith spearheaded the B-G attack scoring a career-high 28 points before fouling out with three minutes to play. Smith did most of his scoring in the first half netting 19 points. “Smith shot it very well, and did a good job of taking it to the basket,” said UV coach Matt Osborne. “We focused on him and Ryan Jones in the second half, and we were able to slow them down.”
Grey led UV with 22 points and Postma scored 18 in the victory. Hank deGlee tickled twine for 11 more.
Jones added 14 in the B-G loss. “It was a heck of an effort on our part, we just couldn’t finish it off,” said B-G coach Greg Warren.
UV plays at Delhi Friday.
