SHERBURNE – Talks are underway that may bring a more than $20 million USDA federally inspected meat processing facility to the Town of Sherburne within the next couple years.
All In Meats, Inc., a newly incorporated enterprise, is laying groundwork with town and county planners to modify an existing 20,000 square foot facility into a meat processing plant along County Road 23 in the Town of Sherburne, located behind Curtis Lumber. Business spokesmen claim the multimillion dollar project will generate 100-150 sustainable jobs and fortify the local ag industry.
All In Meats, Inc. is presently in contract negotiations with the current owner of the property. Discussions have also been had with town and village officials, as well as members of the Sherburne Planning Board and the Chenango County Department of Planning and Development. Company CEO Donald Meeker said the location is ideal as the company would benefit from its proximity to the customer base, close access to state Highway 12, railroad access, low utility costs, room for expansion, and the likelihood of having natural gas available in the not so distant future.
At full capacity, All In Meats expects to cull 20-plus cows per hour (or approximately 350 large cows per day), the majority of which will be New York State dairy cows. Additionally, 50-plus small livestock including lamb, goats and pork would be culled per hour (or approximately 700 per day).
