Bainbridge-Guilford 55, Newfield 38
BAINBRIDGE – The memory of a 36-point loss in the sectional playoffs two years ago was still fresh in the memory of Bainbridge-Guilford senior Morgan Bullis Thursday night.
"We lost in the third round to Elmira Notre Dame 42-6," Bullis said of the February, 2013 loss. "We didn't want something like that to happen again. We knew we could do it tonight if we played our best."
It may not have been the Bobcats' best effort, but it was plenty good enough to beat the Trojans before a crowd of better than 800. B-G advanced to the Section IV Class C finals Saturday at 1:15 p.m. at the Floyd L. Maines Arena against Watkins Glen.
"I can't tell you how excited I am for this group of kids," said B-G coach Bob Conway, who fought back tears. "With our inside players, we felt we were better than (Newfield). We felt we could dominate the boards, and we did that."
Freshman Megan Palmatier had 20 points and six rebounds in the win, Bullis posted her usual double-double with 14 points, 13 rebounds, and four steals, and Becca Reyes scored eight points and dished out five assists.
