SHERBURNE – A tidal wave of advocacy in defense of public schools is sweeping across New York State in response to Governor Andrew Cuomo’s education agenda.

As part of this movement, parents, teachers, students, administrators, and community members plan to gather on March 26 in a show of unity for a statewide action during which participants will join hands to encircle public school buildings in a symbolic gesture of protection.

The Sherburne event, sponsored by The Sherburne-Earlville CSD, will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Sherburne Elementary School flagpole, 15 School St., in Sherburne.

S-E Superintendent Eric Schnabl stated, “We, as a school community, need to stand together and let our voices be heard. I encourage all stakeholders to contact our lawmakers and attend the Protect Our Schools demonstration on March 26. By standing in solidarity, we can convince our lawmakers that the Governor’s proposed measures are not in the best interests of our public school children. No one can deny that work needs to be done, as the socioeconomic challenges and increasing mandates faced by our schools make the important task of educating our students more difficult. Student success cannot be solely measured by annual written tests. We work toward and celebrate student success, on all levels, each and every day.”
