Oneonta 6, Norwich 1
NORWICH – Oneonta senior Brie Baker overpowered the Norwich lineup through six innings of work in Wednesday’s victory over the Tornado.
Baker gave up one hit – a single to Jordan Sanford in the fifth – striking out 13 and not walking a batter. “We knew it would be tough; (Brie) didn’t get second team all-state recognition last year for nothing,” said Norwich coach Scott Moore. “We wanted to get more out of the bats, she’s just tough to hit against.”
Sarah Horne had an inside-the-park home run in the first inning for Oneonta, and a second Yellowjackets run scored in the opening inning after a Norwich throwing error on an attempted steal of second base.
Norwich scored in the seventh when Sanford singled in Shannon Moore.
Norwich (1-1) hosts Owego today.
