SOUTH NEW BERLIN – Authorities have confirmed that a woman who had been missing has been found alive and well.
Family and friends of a 19-year-old woman from the hamlet of South New Berlin that asked for assistance from community members on social media and news outlets this morning can now rest assured.
Early Monday morning it was reported that 2014 Unadilla Valley graduate Harlie Anne Christian was missing and had been last seen at home on Sunday between the hours of 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., according to her mother, Kelly West.
While Christian is from South New Berlin hamlet (Town of Morris), she currently lives on campus at Herkimer College where she is enrolled as a full-time student. The college is approximately 50 miles northeast of her home in South New Berlin.
West said that she had been in communication with Christian throughout the day Sunday via a series of mobile phone text messages. “The last text I received from her was at 3:20 p.m. on Sunday,” said West.
West indicated that based on the dialogue of text conversations to her daughter, she assumed that Christian was on her way back to the Herkimer campus where she was scheduled for a 9:15 a.m. class. Likewise, Christian did not attend work on campus at 2 p.m. Monday which further raised suspicion.
The case spanned two jurisdictions and was handled by both Otsego County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Chenango County Sheriff's Office as the family’s residence is just over the Chenango-Otsego county line, east of the Unadilla River.
Earlier on Monday West had said that Otsego Sheriff's Deputies were actively looking for her daughter, and that a mobile phone “ping” was sent to Christian's handset. The device sent back a location in the town of Oxford and southern Town of Norwich areas.
According to Otsego County Sheriff investigator Jason Munson, the case had been classified as an active missing persons investigation, but is now closed after Deputies located and interviewed Christian.
"We're just so very thankful that she's been found an is alive and well," said West in a phone interview.
