Bainbridge-Guilford 2, Oxford 1 (8 innings)

BAINBRIDGE – Bainbridge-Guilford extended its season – and the career of retiring skipper Tim Mattingly – in walk-off fashion Wednesday in the Section IV Class C playoffs.

Bloop singles to centerfield by Pete Ouimet and Ryan Jones set the stage for Sean Jones’ one-out line-drive single that scored a sliding Ouimet without a play at the plate. “Both teams had opportunities to score runs today, and I think the pitching on boths sides was outstanding,” Mattingly said after the victory. “Kevin (Davis) threw a heck of a game for Oxford, and Petey (Ouimet), for such a big game as a sophomore, he just hung in there for us and pounded the strike zone. The defense was solid, and Kyle (Hanvey) tracked down two shots in the gap. It was a good, clean baseball game.”

B-G scored first when Austin Carr doubled to left field in the second inning and scored on Bailey Green’s single up the middle.

Oxford evened the score in the fourth. After Davis was hit by a pitch and Richard Ryan walked, the Blackhawks loaded the bases on Dylan DePew’s single to centerfield. Davis then scored on Daniel Lawton’s misplayed groundball to shortstop. On the play Ryan was forced out at third base, and Ouimet got out of the jam inducing a groundout.
