Forward march: Three S-E musicians to join Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade lineup

SHERBURNE – Three Sherburne-Earlville High School students will be marching off to New York come November to perform alongside young musicians from all over the country as part of the famous Macy’s Great American Marching Band.

Freshman Kyle Cole, and twin sisters Katelynn and Ashly Palmer – both sophomores – were recently accepted to play with some of the country’s musical elite during the most watched televised parade of the year. The Macy’s Great American Marching Band is a shining star of the annual Thanksgiving Day parade lineup in New York City, accepting only 250 high school students nationwide to perform in front of an audience of 2.5 million parade goers, and another 50 million watching on live television.

The once in a lifetime opportunity will give them the chance to learn new marching techniques, meet new faces, and take time to explore The Big Apple – all while building their musical prowess.

“I was extremely nervous auditioning because I didn’t expect that I would make it. There’s so many people who audition, so it’s like one in a million,” said Katelynn Palmer, a six-year saxophone player who said despite her confidence in performing, her marching is still a little rusty. “I like marching in general, even though I’m still not great at it,” she said. “It’s what I’m most nervous about.”
