NORWICH – The Lt. Warren Eaton Airport in Norwich is slated to receive a sizable grant through the Federal Aviation Administration to help carry out a tree-cutting project that will increase pilots’ visibility of the runway.

Funds will pay for the design phase for the removal of 10 acres of tree obstructions in the runway approach, most of which occurs on private properties surrounding the airport. The FAA released $90,000 to help fund the project that will help clear tree obstruction from the runway.

The announcement of federal funding was made Monday by U.S. Representative Richard Hanna.

“I am pleased the Norwich Airport received this much needed grant funding to remove tree obstructions from the Runway One approach,” Hanna said. “Lt. Warren Eaton Airport is a tremendous facility in Chenango County, and I know this funding will be put to good use.”

Hanna, a pilot and member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation, added his congratulations to the county and the staff who keep the airport “a premiere location in upstate New York.”
