SHERBURNE - In their first game of the season Thursday, the Sherburne-Earlville varsity field hockey team took on Central Valley Academy and won handily, beating the visiting team 5-0.
The first half started and ended well for the Marauders as slipped shots past the opposing team's defense and scored their first two goals to get up on CVA 2-0 at the end of the half. Approximately half way through the first half it was Megan Rodman got it started for S-E and scored the first goal of the game. With 3:36 left to go in the first Alexa Bates fired a shot and scored her first goal of three to make the score 2-0 at the end of the first half. "It was a great win for us," said Sherburne-Earlville coach Sheila Cooman. "We lost to this team last year so it felt nice to get the win."
To start of the second half Bates was back at it, scoring her second goal of the game to push the score to 3-0. It wasn't all offense that won the game for the Marauders as the goal keeper Lexi Jordan registered seven saves on the game. Getting back at it was Kaley Judge who scored with 13:40 left to go in the game. "It has been a long time since we had scoring like this," Cooman said. "I saw a lot of good things from our girls."
