NORWICH – A Chenango County grand jury met for the month of September and subsequently saw 5 individuals indicted last week.

• Robert J. Collins, 35, of Sherburne was indicted on three felony charges and one misdemeanor charge. Collins was charged with unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine in the third degree, a class D felony; criminal possession of precursors of methamphetamine, a class E felony; unlawful disposal of methamphetamine laboratory material, a class E felony; and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a class A misdemeanor.

It is alleged that Collins, on August 18, 2015, in the Village of Sherburne in a wooded area behind North Main Street, did knowingly and unlawfully possess a bottle containing methamphetamine, chemical reagents of pseudoephedrine, sodium hydroxide, lithium, ammonium nitrate, coleman fuel, coffee filters, plastic tubing, measuring cups, funnels and gloves in order to unlawfully manufacture methamphetamine.

Collins is also charged with the disposal of the methamphetamine lab, as he allegedly tried to get rid of the plastic bottle containing hazardous materials by throwing it in a stream in the woods, essentially creating a substantial health risk to humans and the environment.
