CHENANGO – Chenango County is among 33 counties eligible to take from a pot of $20 set aside for affordable housing in areas harshly impacted by Superstorm Sandy, Hurricane Irene, and Tropical Storm Lee.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced on Wednesday that state funding is available to communities that lost affordable housing in the wake of the three major storms that hammered the area in 2011 and 2013.
Qualified housing developers are invited to submit proposals for properties to be developed in all 33 counties, including several located in the Southern Tier.
Funding comes by way of the governor’s Office of Storm Recovery, its $4.4 billion federal allotment from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Program, and overseen through the Homes and Community Renewal’s Small Project Affordable Rental Construction Program.
