NEW BERLIN - Soccer was not the most important event when the UV Storm and the Greene Trojans met this past evening, Tuesday, October 6.

In a night that is usually reserved for seniors, the Storm and Trojan players selflessly gave up the spotlight to highlight a greater cause. Tuesday's game marked the third annual Kick For the Cure fundraising event at Unadilla Valley. This is an event where are proceeds go to help local families battling cancer. Everyone involved extended a thanks to Heither Simmons for her central role in organizing the event. Both teams and communities got into the act, celebrating life and the fight that local cancer patients go through every day.

The teams, as well as fans, community members, and other varsity sports all met on the field for a pre-game floating lantern lighting. The Storm players and parents surprised coach Ryan Houck by having his mother, Vicki, who has been battling cancer for a number of years now attend the match. The Greene players and coach Rick Tallman, would not be outdone, fully participating in the event, including wearing Pink T-shirts to school and for warm ups in honor of cancer patients everywhere.

After the ceremony was finished the game began. Greene defeated the Storm by a final score of 5-0.
