CHENANGO FORKS - Last night, Wednesday, October 7, the Norwich girls tennis team traveled to Chenango Forks to play in the division tie breaker match and won 4-3 in exciting fashion. This is Norwich's fourth straight division title.
Starting off the match was Norwich's Makenzie Maynard who took on Cassandra Pnataro. Maynard lost her match in straight sets and Norwich was now down 2-0 as a result of a forfeit in doubles pairing.
The next two matches were won by Norwich's Caroline Stewart and Samantha Gage, both in straight sets. Now the match was tied at two apiece.
In doubles play Norwich and Chenango Forks split the two matches and the match was tied at three each.
The match and the division came down to the outcome of the match between Norwich's Marysa Campbell and Chenango Fork's Colleen Samsel. Campbell would win her first set 6-0, but drop the second 4-6. The match came down to a third set tie breaker. Campbell would step it up and take the tie breaker to win the match for her team, capturing Norwich's fourth straight division title.
"Going into this match we knew that it was going to be tough," said Norwich Coach John Stewart. "Marysa's senior experience payed off for us and I couldn't be happier."
