ENDWELL - The doubles team of Makenzie Maynard and Caroline Stewart took second place last Friday, October 16, at the sectional tournament in Endwell, losing to a Seton Catholic doubles team.
Maynard and Stewart took second place in the sectional tournament this season, improving from last year’s third place finish. The doubles team lost a very hard fought match to Seton Catholic in the section finals. As a result the pair is now in the state qualifying tournament this Friday, October 23, and Saturday, October 24, at the Binghamton Tennis Center.
“I think that they girls played very well on Friday,” said Norwich Coach John Stewart. “Both girls played singles in the regular season and haven’t had much of a chance to practice doubles. For the little amount of time that they played doubles I think that they did a great job.”
Overall the Norwich team took third as a team at the tournament. The Purple Tornado women finished behind Vestal at second and the overall champion Seton Catholic.
Match results: Makenzie Maynard & Caroline Stewart (N) lost to (Un Named & Un named) Seton Catholic, 6-2, 6-4.
