It's The Double Whammy, Patrollers! Not only do we say Happy Thanksgiving! We also have to say Happy Anniversary! The DVD patrol has been giving you hints all month that the Toddster is celebrating 10 years with The Evening Sun where he's been bringing you everything in DVDS, Movies, and Television as well. The Patrol was really stumped in thinking what we could do but then the Toddster thought it would be a great idea to bring some number #1 movies back around. Take a look and see what you like.
Batman Begins (2005)- Every hero has to get their start somewhere. Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) was a young man when he saw his parents killed during a robbery. He's vowed to himself that will never happen again. So he decides to travel the World to get the skills so he can fight crime. During a stint in jail, he's visited by Henri Ducard (Lian Neeson) who represents Ra's Al Ghaul and the League of Shadows. After a period of training, they believe BRuce is ready to use his new skills to take out the citizens of Gotham City. Bruce has a different idea in mind. He escapes from them and returns to his city to start his war on crime. He decides to assume the guise of a bat with the tools of his company to begin his crusade. Can Bruce become the Dark Knight and stop what is coming before the city is destroyed? Batman (now played by Ben Affleck) will take on Superman in "Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice" coming to theaters on March 25,2016.
Superman Returns (2006)- We all wonder where our heroes go sometimes. Superman (Brandon Routh) discovers that astronomers may have discovered the remains of his destroyed homeworld Krypton. The Man of Steel decides to leave the Earth behind and go to see for himself if any part of his Planet of his people still remain. After 5 years, using his secret identity as Clark Kent, Superman returns to find everyone and everything he knew has moved on without him. Even his lady love Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth) now has a new man in her life and they have had a son. He also learns that his old enemy Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey) has raided his Fortress of Solitude and stolen technology to reshape the Earth for his own gains. Can Clark find his place in the World and stop Luthor in time? Routh is now playing a new hero called "The Atom" guest starring on "Arrow" and will be a new show called "Legends of Tomorrow" premiering on the CW network on January 21 at 8PM.
Star Trek (2009)- You always wonder how stories get their start and how our favorite characters keep going. James T Kirk (Chris Pine) was born during a battle and is now trying to live up to his Father's name while his future partner Spock (Zachary Quinto) is struggling to live with his human and Vulcan halves always at war with each other. Years later, they both join Starfleet and they each have conflicting ways of doing the job. They'll have to find a way to coexist with a new threat from a time traveling Romulan named Nero (Eric Bana). With their new colleagues on the Starship Enterprise and a future version of Spock (Leonard Nimoy), will Kirk and Spock be able to save the Galaxy? Pine and Quinto have finished up the latest installment of Star Trek for a 2016 Summer premiere. Also Pine is currently working with Gal Gadot on a brand new Wonder Woman solo movie slated for release in 2017.
Marvel's The Avengers (2012)- It's always fun to see how characters are able to get along in a group usually when they're used to working alone. Loki (Tom Hiddleston) has returned with an Alien Army called the Chautari and have come seeking the tessract. A power source that can help them take over the Earth. Now the only ones that can stop them are people you would never suspect. Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlet Johannsen), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) need to find a way to work together to stop Loki and the threat he poses to everyone. Is there a way for them to work and stop the Earth from being taken over? Evans and Downey will be working together but now they will be on opposing sides in "Captain America: Civil War" in theaters in May 2016.
Before we go, we have to think some people who have been terrific supporters and continue to this day with us. Our editors Jeff Genung (Who got us started and believed in us), Brian Golden, and our Managing Editor Ashley Babbitt who makes sure DVD Patrol stays in the paper in print and online editions. She always picks great pictures for us too. Dick Snyder, that great guy of a publisher who has kept us going right here. Our loyal patrollers and you know who you are. Finally, one patroller who will always have a special place in the Toddster's heart. My mother thought I could do this and it's funny during the first five years she would cut out my column and put them into a scrapbook. I know she's watching me from the big Movie Theater in the sky.
Have no fear, Patrollers! The Toddster will be back next time.
