On Tuesday evening December 8th the Mid-York Concert Band under the direction of Mark D. Sands will present it's first holiday concert in many years. Newly reformed last spring the band performed its first concert in May. Mr. Sands was named music director this past September and the 34 piece ensemble has been rehearsing since the fall in preparation for this performance.
Concert selections will include, Christmas Classics arranged by James Swearingen, Civil War Suite by Harold L. Walters, Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson and Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa. The program will also include a performance of Irving Berlin's White Christmas by Norwich High School senior, recording artist and American Idol contestant Kaitlyn Jackson. She will also lead the audience in a Christmas carol medley with the band at the end of the program. The evening will also include a performance of "Twas the Night Before Christmas" narrated by former Norwich Middle School principal Michael McCollough. This is surely a concert to get the entire family into the holiday spirit. The concert will take place on December 8, 2015 in the Norwich High School auditorium and begins at 7:30 pm. A free will offering will be accepted at the door.
