OXFORD - This weekend marked the 53rd annual Clyde Cole Wrestling Tournament in Oxford. 16 teams from all over the state came to compete in one of the largest and competitive tournaments in the state.
This year’s overall team winner was Shenendehowa High School with 269 total points, just beating out Bainbridge-Guilford-Afton-Harpursville’s 225 team points.
BGAH would send seven wrestlers to the finals match on Saturday, December 5. The Bears would win two first place matches and earn five second place medals. BGAH also had one wrestler place third, one place fifth, and one place sixth to earn a second place team finish.
Finishing fourth overall as a team with 170 points, Norwich sent four wrestlers to the finals. One Tornado would finish in first place with three taking second, three taking third, and two taking fifth place to round out the tournament.
Host team Oxford finished in fifth place. Oxford finished the weekend with 130 team points and one overall champion and one second place finish. The Blackhawks also earned two third place finishes and one fourth place medal.
Sherburne-Earlville would compete in Oxford as well this weekend. The Marauders would finish with one wrestler taking first place, one earning third, one placing fourth, one placing fifth, and one placing sixth. S-E would finish with 95 team points.
In tenth place with 60 team points was Unadilla Valley. UV finished with one overall champion, one fourth place winner, and one sixth place medalist.
