OXFORD - Hosting Schenevus on Wednesday, December 9, the Oxford boys’ varsity basketball team won 61-24.

Oxford put defensive pressure on Schenevus early in the game, leading in the first quarter by as much as 16 points at times. Josh Nelson got to an early start and scored eight of the Blackhawks’ 19 first quarter points. Nelson would finish second on his team for scoring with 12 points.

The second quarter went much like the first as Oxford’s lead increased. Now up 31-10 going into the half, it looked to be an early night for the visiting team.

The Blackhawk defense was what really made the difference in this game. “We pressed them early on,” said Oxford coach Tim Davis. “That allowed us to get some early baskets and a lead.”

The Blackhawks also finished with 26 steals over the course of the game.

Oxford’s Kevin Davis was the high scorer for the game, scoring 17. Davis hit two threes in the second quarter for a quick six points and then exploded in the fourth with 11 to help put away Schenevus. Oxford’s defense never let up double digit points in any quarter in their victory.
