SHERBURNE - The Sherburne-Earlville girls varsity basketball team hosted their annual tip-off tournament this weekend. During their first game of the tournament, S-E’s Lilly Berg reached the 1,000 point milestone.
Playing against Unadilla Valley in their first game, S-E’s Lilly Berg did what few players have ever done in their careers, reach 1,000 points. Berg’s milestone came on the back of a 62-48 win over UV.
The first half was a competitive game for the two Chenango County schools as it ended with S-E up only 29-26. S-E scored 14 in the first and 15 in the second to go up by just a few over UV.
The second half was a different story as the Marauder women exploded out of the locker room and earned 25 points in the third quarter. It wasn’t just S-E’s offense that earned them the lead, it was the defense that held UV to only nine points in the third and 13 in the fourth to hold on for their win.
On her way to 1,000 points, Berg found herslf scoring 24 on the night. The majority of Berg’s points came from the free-throw line as she only scored four from the field. Although Berg managed to earn her 1,000th point, she was not the high scorer on the floor. Savannah Irwin of S-E scored 25 on the night in her team’s win, making her the game’s high scorer.
