OXFORD – The Oxford varsity girl’s basketball Holiday Tournament, began Dec. 29 and concluded yesterday evening, Dec. 30. Greene won in style as they claimed their fifth consecutive win coming at the Holiday Tournament.
This two-day tournament featured four schools from around the Chenango County area: Oxford, Greene, Afton and Walton.
Greene rolled through the tournament first beating Afton and then Walton. The Trojan ladies were by far the stand out team of the tournament, MVP honors were even given to Greene’s Katie Carey, Carey led her team in scoring for the final game posting the only double digit points in that contest at 11.
The two matchups on the first day of the tournament featured Greene against Afton, to which Greene would come out the champion in that matchup.
The second game of the evening saw the host Oxford square off against Walton, to which Oxford would go on to continue their losing streak bringing them to 0-8 on the season.
This first day results set up the following day as the tournament finale, with Oxford looking for their first win on the season in an attempt to take home third place in the consolation game at 4:30 p.m. against Afton., and Greene versus Walton following at 6:30 p.m.
Oxford would go on to lose to Afton, 44-35, as Afton secured their third place status in the tournament knocking Oxford to 0-9 on the season.
