NORWICH – Two newcomers to the Norwich Common Council were sworn in at the city’s 2016 organizational meeting, which was held at the Council Chambers on Monday.
Incoming Ward One Alderman Matthew Caldwell and Ward Five Alderman David Zieno took the oath of office prior to the start of the meeting. Both were elected in contested races in their wards back in November.
Returning Ward Three Alderman John Deierlein was also sworn-in for another term, along with City Supervisors James McNeil (Wards 1,2, 3) and Robert Jeffrey (Wards 4-6).
Norwich Mayor Christine Carnrike said the newly assembled council has several challenges to confront in the coming year, namely the task of doing a line-by-line analysis of the city’s budget and replenishing city reserves.
