CHENANGO FORKS- It was a great night offensively for the Purple Tornado girls’ varsity basketball team as they racked up their second highest score of the season in their victory over Chenango Forks 69-44 last night, Jan. 5.

“I thought our offensive execution was as good as it has been in the past three weeks, on all levels, “said Norwich head coach Josh Bennett.

The Tornado came out of the tunnel with all guns blazing on offense in the first quarter, setting the tone for the rest of the night. Number 13, Makenzie Maynard had 13 of her game high 18 points for Norwich in the quarter, netting two three-pointers in the process.

“Makenzie was a benefiter of some really good passes in the first quarter. She definitely came out hot,” said Bennett.

They continued their dominance in the second, outscoring the Blue Devils by 10 points, 16-6. Norwich ended the half up by double digits on a score line of 33-17.

Norwich came out of the half with even more emphasis on the offensive pressure. Seven of the nine players who played in the game for the Tornado each scored some points in the third quarter. The Blue Devils made a futile attempt to claw back at the deficit, with number 11, Alex Yoest, Forks’ top scorer on the night with 23 points, draining two three pointers in the quarter, but it wasn’t enough as Norwich managed to seal the game in the fourth and cruise to the win.
