SHERBURNE – “In my opinion, she can not only play at the next level, she can dominate,” said S-E volleyball coach Ed Holmquist of this week’s Athlete of the Week Alexa Bates.

Bates plays various sports for S-E including softball, field hockey, and this season’s sport: volleyball.

Bates has been a member of the Lady Marauders volleyball team for the past three years.

“She is a tremendous force at the net,” said Holmquist. “She averages four to five blocks per game, seven to eight kills, and is a digging machine.”

Holmquist said Bates is a team leader.

“She has matured over the years and is a great role model and competitor,” her coach said.

Holmquist added that if there are teammates struggling, Bates is willing to step up to spend extra time with them to get them back on track.

The Lady Marauders are at a tournament today, and Bates wears uniform #19.
