SHERBURNE – The Sherburne-Earleville Marauders men’s varsity basketball team bounced back from a tough loss in their last game against Canastota with a convincing win last Friday night against Adirondack. They now move to an impressive overall record of 8-2, and are 3-1 in the Centre State Conference.
The Marauders dominated the game from start to finish. They quickly raced out to an 11-point lead early in the first quarter and never looked back.
S-E looked like a much better team defensively in comparison to their game against Canastota. Head coach Kevin Vibbard explained, “I thought that we played with great defensive intensity. We held them to three points in the first quarter, 14 at the half. You know, you’re going to win a lot of games if you only give up 14 points in a half.”
Going into the halftime break, the Marauders held a double-digit lead, 26-14.
They continued their superiority in the second half and eased to the victory. S-E’s Ian Fleming, Gavin Giroux and Matt Hull all finished the game with double figures in scoring.
Vibbard was full of praise for his team following the victory, saying, “I thought it was a great team effort. I thought the kids played hard. That’s a tribute to them after a tough loss here at home the other night. We bounced back strong and got right after them on the defensive end from the start. I was really happy with the performance.”
