SHERBURNE – Emergency crews were called to the scene of a fatal car accident in the Town of Sherburne on Monday.

According to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, two cars collided on State Highway 12 near Knapp Road, north of the village, shortly before 10:30 a.m.

Police say Lance Yerton of Sherburne was southbound when an unnamed out-of-state male driver veered from the northbound lane and hit Yerton’s vehicle head-on.

Both drivers were transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica, Yerton with unspecified face and leg injuries. The driver of the second vehicle was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police have yet to publicly announce the driver of the second vehicle.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
