SHENENDEHOWA – Sherburne-Earlville and Greene Central high school decided to make the trip to Shenendehowa for the annual Wrangle on the Plains wrestling tournament.
S-E would only elect to bring 195-pound Jack Buell, as the rest of the Marauders were in Mount Markham at The Mustang Duels. While the Trojans would bring three of their own; Ryan Castle at 132-pounds, Nate Banks at 152-pounds, and Braxton Howell at 195-pounds.
This year’s tournament was set up in a round robin format, consisting of a multitude of top-notch wrestlers at each weight class.
“He did real well, he’s wrestling real solid right now and he didn’t get banged up either,” said Sherburne head coach Bim Palmer regarding Jack Buell’s performance. “It was a round robin tournament and that’s why went to it because I knew usually when we bring Jack to tournaments he gets one or two matches only, and he could get more this way against some quality kids.”
Buell would see five matches throughout the tournament, all of them going in his favor en route to a 5-0 finish winning the title at 195-pounds.
“Jack was in the elite division so all the kids he wrestled had sectional criteria or a placed in sectionals before,” said Palmer.
