CORTLAND – Friday afternoon saw two top state ranked wrestling squads square off on in neutral territory, with Adirondack coming out on top winning, 48-29.
Both currently in the top five for small schools, BGAH sits at a fifth while section III’s Adirondack is ranked third. This would mark only the second team loss for the Bears in the 2015-2016 season.
With the duel meet starting at 195-pounds this past Friday evening, BGAH found themselves exchanging quick pins early on, while surrendering two forfeit losses to Adirondack within the first five matches, setting them at a team score of 12-18.
Chris Cirigliano of BGAH would earn a 7-1 victory over Sean Banks of Adirondack at 113-pounds, inching the team score to 15-18. This slight lead would be widened when BGAH gave up yet another forfeit at 120-pounds, moving the score to 24-15.
Following the third forfeit at 120-pounds, Adirondack would battle to earn three more pin fall wins at 126, 132, and 138-pounds putting them in a commanding lead, before BGAH’s Ben Bivar could slow the Wildcats down.
