NEW BERLIN - The Unadilla Valley girls varsity basketball team pulled out a three point win over Hancock last Friday night, Feb. 5, in their last regular season game of the year, 49-46.
Julia Oglesby had a big double-double for the Storm, netting 24 points and 18 rebounds, and Freshman Shelby Meade played her part tacking on another 8 points.
“Julia and Shelby played really well together tonight,” said Unadilla Valley Head Coach Brandi Backus. “Hunter Lakin had another great game, Brooke Brown came off the bench and had two crucial baskets for us in the first half, and Kaleigh Fairchild played great defense on their best shooter. We have lots of bright spots for the years to come.”
The Wildcats, who had a two point lead entering the final quarter, were led by 18 points from Lexi Houghton. Houghton was hot in the third, scoring 10 of her 18 points, but would be held scoreless by the Storm in the fourth quarter.
In the last quarter of the matchup, Hancock as a team was held to only 9 points scoring. Oglesby and Meade finished what they started, combining for 12 points to put the Storm past the Wildcats.
