GREENE – Two Chenango County boys basketball teams squared off yesterday evening, Feb. 9, as Greene hosted and defeated Unadilla Valley 50-47.
This semi-finals matchup in the MAC league championships saw two high energy squads fight to the very last second of regulation in what seemed like a game that would be decided by who possessed the ball last.
Due to the high quality of play and the fast paced style of the game between both The Storm and The Trojans, there would not be a significantly noted lead change until right at the end of the third quarter and again at the end of the game.
With an uncountable number of lead changes, the score flopped back and forth between the two teams in the first half of play to eventually land on a even tie at 29-points a piece heading into the second half of play.
Luke Day, number 11, for the Trojans would net 10 of his team high 19-points in the third quarter, something that proved key to the eventual successes Greene would receive.
Riding on the shooting of Day in the third quarter, The Trojans carried a 43-39 lead heading into the final 8-minutes of regulation.
It was UV’s senior Ryan Postma, number 3, would earn 6-points off of free throws in the final quarter in an attempt at the comeback win. The strategy that Greene employed by fowling Postma held The Storm to just 8-points total in the final quarter.
