BINGHAMTON – The Tornado girl’s varsity basketball team suffered a rough loss last Wednesday night, Feb. 10, against a resilient Binghamton team in the semi-finals of the STAC tournament.
Norwich struggled offensively all night and could never really find a spark. Their defense also had major trouble in containing the potent Patriots offense, which exploded for 77 points on the night.
The Tornado, who went into the game with high aspirations, but were shut down in every facet of the game by the brilliant Binghamton play.
“They are just big, strong, physical, quick and athletic. They outplayed us tonight in all aspects.” said Norwich head coach Josh Bennett.
Best in the loss for Norwich were Kassidy Seary, who netted eight points, as well as Shelby Benjamin and Bridget Murphy, who had seven points apiece. Binghamton’s Olivia Ramil finished as the game-high scorer, with 23 points in her teams victory.
Bennett felt like his team was lacking in some crucial areas in the loss, saying, “We need to do a lot of work in valuing the ball, taking better care of it and we need to rebound the ball better on defense.”
Next up for Norwich after this defeat is a test against their main rivals, and arch-nemesis, the Oneonta Yellow-Jackets, next Saturday night, Feb. 20.
