ONEONTA – In a clash of two familiar foes, The Bainbridge-Guilford girl’s varsity basketball team completed a repeat of last year’s supremacy, winning the MAC title for the second consecutive year running, courtesy of a 40-24 victory over rivals, the Delhi Bulldogs.

Things did not look promising from the outset. “In the first quarter, we went 0-10 and played very tight,” said Bobcats head coach Bob Conway. The B-G scoring effort was limited to just two free-throws in the first quarter.

The Bobcats were able to remain in striking distance thanks to their exceptional play on the defensive end of the court. They held the Bulldogs to just six points in the first quarter, and eight in the second to bring the deficit down to just two points at the break and keep the game in the balance.

“Molly O’Hara went 3-4 in the second quarter, and that got us going,” said Conway. “We talked about relaxing and having a little fun and then shot 9-15 in the second half.”

While their defense remained staunch, the attacking prowess of the Bobcats finally began to shine. Abi Selfridge had six of her 10 points in the third quarter, while Becca Reyes hit five of her eight points in the fourth to close out the terrific victory for the Bobcats.

Following their league triumph, B-G will host Unatego next Wednesday night. That match-up is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
