SHERBURNE - The Marauder men came up short in the Section III Class B tournament quarterfinals in a 64-48 loss at home to Skaneateles.
Sherburne-Earlville came out of the gate hot, scoring 21 points in the first quarter to take a six point lead over the Lakers. Things changed in the second quarter where their offense cooled off entirely and they would not convert a field goal attempt.
Sherburne-Earlville Head Coach Kevin Vibbard said, “We turned the ball over too much in the second and fourth quarters.”
Despite a third quarter where the Marauder offense began to rekindle, the Lakers continued to produce points until they were out of reach. Justin McClanahan sank four three-points for Skaneateles in the final quarter which would seal the deal and keep Sherburne-Earlville at bay.
The Marauders were led by senior Gavin Giroux, who scored 11 of his team high 18 points during the Sherburne-Earlville’s hot streak that started the game.
“I’m proud of the way [our seniors] performed this season,” said Coach Vibbard. “They stepped up as leaders and helped us win many games including the division championship. I’m proud of the men that they have become.”
