GREENE - Greene senior Jordy Harrington carried over his stellar performance from the MAC championship to the opening round of sectionals on Wednesday night to help the Trojans beat Groton 74-56 and advance in the Section IV Class C tournament.
The Trojans started the game with a bang, nailing six three-pointers in the first quarter, four of which left Harrington’s hands. Greene took a commanding 18 point lead after one quarter at 28-10, and Groton was unable to keep up with or contain the Trojans from then on.
Greene Head Coach Chris Rice said, “The boys started out quick and fast. We played at our pace and shot very well. We maintained that lead and kind of exchanged baskets from there on.”
Jordy Harrington continued to produce for the Trojans, scoring 27-points in the matchup. Luke Day and Luke Erickson’s offense was also pivotal to Greene’s success, and together they would combine for 30 points.
On Friday night, Greene will host the number 6 seed Watkins Glen Senecas in the quarterfinal game.
“They beat up on us last year at Watkins Glen. We need to be ready for a strong team, who has had a tough schedule,” said Coach Rice. “We’ll have to have both ends of the court going well to beat the Senecas.” Tip-off for the game will be at 7 p.m.
