WATKINS GLEN - The Bainbridge-Guilford girls varsity basketball team lost in the quarterfinals of the Section IV Class C on Saturday night bringing their season to a close.
The Bobcats struggled to score putting up only 15 points over the first three quarters and were ultimately unable to match the physical play of Watkins Glen in a 42-31 loss.
“It was a very physical game,” said Bainbridge-Guilford Head Coach Bob Conway, “Our youth showed and we were overwhelmed. The team should be proud of this season, we went 17-5 and won the league championship.”
Freshman Abigail Selfridge led Bainbridge-Guilford in scoring with 11 points off of 9-for-10 shooting from the free throw line. Junior Rebecca Reyes tacked on another 10 for the Bobcats.
With the win, the Senecas advance to the semi-finals to play number one seeded Elmira Notre Dame on Wednesday night.
Despite the loss, Coach Conway and his team have a lot to look forward to next season. The Bobcats won the Midstate Athletic Conference title this year while consisting of two juniors, four sophomores, and two freshmen. Bainbridge-Guilford will return next season with the same eight players and another year of experience.
